Ephemeral installation, May-August 2017. Voladoras for Plaza Matadero is a light structure that is made up of a series of individual handmade umbrellas, which together conform a large shading surface. The parasols, water resistant light elements, are made with simple materials we found in our daily environment: Hula-Hoops and mask tape in various colors. This plastic membrane allows some transparency, and when arranging the sunshades to the sun, forms of star are framed in the hoops Hula-Hoops. It is a field of shadows with stars, or maybe flowers, propellers or comets, that collaborate in improving the shadow conditions in La Plaza. This installation of multiple colors, and various combinations, cooperates in the activation of La Plaza as a space for socialization in a celebrative environment for workshops, concerts and dances. As a recycling policy after its use, it is proposed to reuse it in another space – school, social center, culture center, etc. – where it is possible to activate workshops or meetings and transformating these spaces through Voladoras, extending its useful life, and generating more meeting spaces.
